Great question! You can’t have true soap without using lye. Lye is wha triggers the chemical reaction that turns the base oils into actual soap. This process is called saponification and takes roughly 12 hours to occur. Once the soap has completed all of its’ chemical phases, you then have saponified oils with no lye remaining. Voilà!
FAQ
Is there lye in your soap?
What is Tallow?
Tallow is a rendered form of beef or mutton fat that has been used for centuries in skincare and soap making. At Kuhdoo, we use premium 100% beef tallow as a key ingredient in many of our soap formulations because of its remarkable benefits for skin health.
What is Tallow?
Tallow is created by slowly heating animal fat until it liquefies, then allowing it to cool and solidify. This traditional rendering process produces a stable, nutrient-rich fat that closely mimics the natural oils found in human skin. Our tallow is sourced from grass-fed beef, ensuring the highest quality and purity.
Benefits for Your Skin
Tallow is rich in fat-soluble vitamins including A, D, E, and K, which are essential for skin health and regeneration. It contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and oleic acid, both known for their anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties. Tallow penetrates deeply into the skin, providing long-lasting hydration without clogging pores. Its composition closely matches the skin's natural sebum, making it ideal for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin.

What is IFRA?
IFRA stands for the International Fragrance Association, a global trade organization dedicated to ensuring the safe and responsible use of fragrances in consumer products.
What IFRA Does
IFRA sets comprehensive safety standards and guidelines for fragrance ingredients used in cosmetics, personal care products, and household goods. The organization conducts rigorous scientific research and risk assessments to establish safe concentration limits for fragrance materials in various product categories.
Safety Standards and Guidelines
IFRA's standards are based on extensive scientific evidence and consumer safety data. The organization bans certain fragrance ingredients deemed unsafe, limits the use of others to specific concentrations, and sets criteria for the safe application of fragrance materials. These guidelines are regularly updated to reflect the latest scientific findings and safety research.
Why IFRA Certification Matters
At Kuhdoo, we're proud that all our fragrances are IFRA certified. This certification ensures that every fragrance we use meets the highest international safety standards, giving you peace of mind that our products are formulated responsibly and safely for your skin.

Why do you state fragrance on your ingredients panel?
This is one of the most asked questions we’ve gotten since Kuhdoo was established in 2013! There is much misinformation out there about toxic fragrance, essential oils, labeling and ingredients. So, let us clear that up!
For most people “fragrance” may as well be a four-letter word, and we certainly understand why. In the past, fragrance has been a label word used as a blanket term covering up all sorts of harmful toxic ingredients, and technically still can be today. However, it’s always important to know your maker because not all “fragrance” is created equally.
All Kuhdoo fragrances are non-toxic, paraben, phthalate, and SLS free. In addition, all OF our fragrances are IFRA certified. The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) is a global trade organization that sets standards for the safe use of fragrances in consumer products. The IFRA standards are based on scientific evidence and consumer insights. These standards ban, limit, or set criteria for the use of certain ingredients. The standards are comprehensive, responsive, and global.
